An air purifier cleans the air that passes through it. Choose one rated for your room and it pulls all the air in the room through its filter about five times an hour. Choose one that is too small and it runs on high all day, makes more noise and still falls behind.
Multiply the length by the width in feet. A room 10 ft by 12 ft is 120 sq ft. Round up to the next foot on each side.
Room sizes on purifiers assume an ordinary ceiling of about 8 ft (240 cm). If your ceiling is higher, or the room opens onto a hall or kitchen with no door, go one size up.
Find the model rated for your number or more. Between two sizes? Take the bigger one, because it cleans the room on a quieter speed.

Every Blueair model is rated for a room size. It is the quickest way to compare models, and you will find it on every product on this page.
CADR (clean air delivery rate) is how much filtered air a purifier puts out every hour. AHAM, the body that tests it, says the CADR in cfm should be at least two-thirds of the floor area in sq ft. A 150 sq ft room needs 100 cfm, about 170 m³/h.
In a small room you sit close to the purifier, so check the decibels on its lowest speed. Our room picks start between 17 and 30 dB.
